Design by Kamma Claire: Deck the Halls

It's been a while since I've posted on here. I guess I can blame my Pinterest account for that...or maybe the right design project just hadn't come along. Which is exactly why I'm so excited to share the latest design I created for Shelter Social Club's annual Deck the Halls holiday shopping/socializing event of the season. This year, it's taking place at the newly acquired Ojai Rancho Inn, which will soon be the go-to spot in Ojai for the ultimate in stylish rest and rejuvenation once renovations are complete.

If you can't already tell by this talented group of vendors, this is going to be an amazing event! Hope to see you there.

Last Night in SF

I just designed this header for my friend and co-worker, Mike McGarry's, new blog Last Night in SF, also known as "Mike McGarry's Month of Music in May." I think his title may be just a little better. In short, he's challenged himself to attend a new live concert in San Francisco every single night this month and then blog about Last Night's concert experience on his blog. It's a pretty rad challenge and I can't wait to hear what comes of his experience. I liked how this design conjured up the feeling of fully rocking out and losing oneself in the music.

GLTZ: A Project Inspired by Maurizio Anzeri

There's something so rich and layered that I love about mixed media pieces, especially ones that involve the flashiness of sequins and the handiwork of sewing into them. These pieces, entitled GLTZ, are inspired by the work of artist Maurizio Anzeri, who, likewise, makes his portraits by sewing directly into found vintage photographs to form elaborate costumes and suggest the psychological aura of his subject. I love the freshness of the GLTZ pieces' modern black and white fashion photography, their use of color, materials and the graphic lines the string creates.

Rotganzen: Melting Disco Balls

These melting, deflated disco balls almost visualize my anguish over the end of LCD Soundsystem. I would love one (or several) of these in my home. They were created by Rotganzen, a Rotterdam based artist collective formed by Robin Stam, Joeri Horstink and Mark van Wijk. Photography courtesy Rick Messemaker.

Artist: Sebastiaan Bremer

Discovered some rad artwork by New York-based (Netherlands-bred) artist Sebastiaan Bremer today. Starting with vintage photographs from his idyllic childhood family vacations in the countryside, he adds a sprinkling of translucent rainbow confetti ink to create a wholly unique image that's layered in memory to produce something entirely new and fresh.

Photography: Jasper James

Not to be confused with Jasper Johns, photographer Jasper James's series of City Silhouettes are fantastic. I love the sense of calm and quite that comes through in these silhouettes pictured high above the hustle and bustle of the Beijing cityscape that we get the slightest glimpse of through their ghostly figures.

Photography: Laina Briedis

I love a good nature excursion and photographer, Laina Briedis, captures some surreal moments that pretty much sum up the feeling of wanderlust, dreams, and the awesomeness that is the outdoors.

Style Inspiration: Karen O

I know these photos are from a few years ago, but could Karen O be any cooler? These outfits are the ultimate.
